Brother supports common standard for wireless printing from phones and tablets 14 feb. 2014 11 okt. 2023 Brother has joined the global Mopria Alliance, which now covers 95 percent of the printing industry on both the hardware and software side. Mopria aims to create a simple standard for mobile printing across brands and manufacturers. Brother demonstrates now more clearly than ever its support of open printing standards. Brother does this by joining the global Mopria Alliance, a non-profit organisation dedicated to creating a new common platform for wireless printing from mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets. Counting Brother's new enrolment, Mopria Alliance has grown to 14 members, which totally account for 95 percent of the printing industry on both the hardware and software side. When Mopria was founded in September 2013, the alliance had four members. Mopria Alliance is in the process of developing new standards for connecting mobile devices with printers. Mopria approved printers will automatically be shown on e.g. the smartphone screen, regardless of the printer brand. The printing is instant, and no set-up procedures or special drivers and apps will be necessary. "Brother has been at the forefront of mobile solutions such as the free iPrint&Scan app. In addition, we have a number of printers that use the wireless Near Field Communication technology. Therefore, it was a natural next step to join the Mopria Alliance," explains Henning Elkjaer, Nordic Marketing Manager at Brother Nordic. Brother has joined the Mopria Alliance as an executive member and will therefore have direct influence on the development of the standards that underlie the upcoming Mopria certification. In the Mopria Alliance, Brother joins familiar colleagues and competitors from the printing industry, for example Adobe, Canon, Konica/Minolta, Samsung, Xerox, HP, Lexmark, Ricoh and Seiko Epson. Brother plan to incorporate Mopria in its future printers. However, it is still not determined when the first Mopria certified Brother printer will be introduced.
